What makes your data useful to AI

Two contractors buy the same AI tool in the same month. Same price, same setup, same training. Six months later, one of them is getting real answers out of it, and the other has quietly stopped logging in. Nothing in that story is about the tool. It’s about what each company was able to put in front of it, and this video is the one in the series worth watching twice, because it’s where you find out which of those two companies you are.

You’ll get a test you can run on your own business, built on four words: granular, structured, connected, and governed. You’ll see why a project that cost $4.2 million gives AI nothing to reason about, while that same job broken down into cost codes tied to crews, equipment, and production quantities gives it somewhere to go. From there, the stakes climb. Connected information separates AI that reports from AI that explains, and governed shifts from a question of who is allowed to see something into a question of what software is allowed to do without asking first.

The video is equally direct about what the test doesn’t cover. Details can be immaculate and still be wrong, and AI will reason confidently over two years of miscoded data without flinching. By the end, you’ll be able to run your own company through all four qualities, find out which ones you’re thin on, and understand why that answer tells you more about your readiness for AI than any product demo will.

What you'll learn

  • Grade your own information as granular, structured, connected, and governed.
  • Explain why detail at the cost code level changes what AI can answer.
  • Trace one job from estimate to cost, and spot where the chain breaks.
  • Decide who, and what, should have access to which information.
  • Recognize why accuracy is a discipline problem rather than a technology one.
