Project description
The MoDOT design-build project to improve I-270 from Columbia to Kingdom City is a critical infrastructure initiative to upgrade a 20-mile stretch of interstate, including two major interchanges in central Missouri. This project addresses traffic flow, safety, and structural concerns on a heavily trafficked route that carries over 140,000 vehicles daily. The improvements will enhance traffic operations, reduce congestion, and improve the overall safety and reliability of the I-270 corridor.
What makes it interesting?
The complexity and scale of these improvements are vital to Missouri’s interstate network. The high volume of traffic and the necessity of maintaining service on such an important route during construction only add to the project’s challenging nature. Additionally, the focus on improving multi-modal travel, including the construction of a new 10-mile multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists, highlights the project’s commitment to serving all communities along the route.
