Users Talk About How HeavyJob Helps Them Do Their Jobs Better
I always look at this industry as a circle. We did it, and then we progressed to budgeting it, and then we moved on to building the work, and then, the final closure of that kinda circle is to get that cost information back so that you can repeat your successes and avoid your failures. - We're tryin' to go completely paperless. In the past when something was off, we've had to go back and go through an entire job. We've had stacks of time sheets this big, and we'd have to go through each single one. I love the fact that I can go through here and filter, group, run reports, and get a good idea of whatever data I'm lookin' for. So that speeds things up a lot, and it allows me to focus on other things, help other people, help our estimator out, help whoever needs it. - It's almost like a Bible. The guys carry it with 'em and anything they need to know, it is pretty much right on their iPad with HeavyJob. Right? (laughs) I even put it on my phone now, so that as I'm walkin' around takin' things in and I'll see somethin' that I think needs some attention and I can flip it on in my phone and turn it on and see where we are. - If I've got an issue out on the job, I can snap a picture of it and they know exactly what I'm lookin' at. I send in a time sheet daily, to where, if there's any errors, they can look at 'em right then instead of me turnin' in a week's worth at one time the day before they need to get checked. - Very important for us managers or superintendents, even, to see what our cost is daily and weekly. Our cost codes are all down there. You put down what you did that day, if you tore out concrete, if you put concrete down, how much you dug out in the pond here, and you can add more, you can add equipment breakdowns, the time you were down. I think it's great to have it. - And now the diary entries are comin' in every day. Now we're usin' it for extra work. They're takin' pictures of all the extra work, which is very beneficial when we go to substantiate a claim. Andy's gettin' all his tickets actually signed on the iPad and sent into the office daily, instead of tryin' to find 'em at the end of the month under somebody's pickup truck seat, so. - Well I'm tryin' to provide the right information for operations and project management and upper management, on a real-time basis. And where we used to have to wait until the Wednesday after the payroll week, we're really startin' to get 'em in the next day, or sometimes probably the same day, so, we're getting more timely information, we're getting more accurate information, from the field, through the iPad. - It's made the job a lot easier, bein' able to stay out in the field with the crews instead of bein' in the office doin' paperwork. - So you put the plan together, you wanna see how the plan worked out, and the only way in this business is to measure yourself daily on man-hours particularly. - When we installed it, I don't think we knew the power of HeavyJob and what it could do. Every year, we make strides and start using a different aspect to better manage our company. Our field guides crave the information. They wanna have the satisfaction knowin' that they're performin' their job on budget, and beating the budget. That's everybody's goal is to be able to beat the budget. - It makes us more efficient and I think what it does is free up your people to think a little bit, to do what they're there for, which is to think. They're there to find a better way to construct a project, to get around an obstacle, to deal with an issue, to tighten up the schedule, things like that. And I think by being a little bit more efficient, it frees you up to think a little bit. - That's the goal, is to empower the people, give the information to the people, that are makin' the decisions.
