Webber: I-10 White Oak Bayou Reconstruction and Elevation Project

Project description

Running from coast to coast (California to Florida and back again), Interstate 10 is the fourth-longest interstate in the entire U.S. A crucial 1.8-mile stretch of the road running through the heart of Houston’s White Oak Bayou will soon be elevated above a detrimental flood zone that has historically been an issue. Travel lanes will be added in both directions to drastically improve traffic conditions for those driving through the city.

What makes it interesting?

The length of I-10 along the White Oak Bayou has flooded a total of 10 times since 1992. With I-10 in general being a staple for the transportation of the U.S. supply chain, this project was deemed a high priority by the TxDOT staff, who put in a substantial amount of effort to reduce roadway congestion, keep vehicular travel safe, and maintain a booming economy in the Lone Star State.

How HCSS software assisted with the project

The reconstruction and elevation project along White Oak Bayou is estimated to cost $407 million dollars. As the largest hard bid contract that Webber has won, their team is currently carrying out the project awarded by the TxDOT, spanning a total of 4 years to complete. A longtime HCSS user, Webber used HeavyBid to secure this massive contract.

“I-10 is a critical corridor for the Houston region, Texas, and the nation. Lack of mobility on I-10 threatens the economic livelihood of our cities and state. Improvements to this area are desperately needed.”

– Steven D. Alvis, Texas Transportation Commissioner
