How to Get More from the Field Than Just Time (Repeated)

Most companies using HeavyJob know how to get time and production in from the field. But they may not be getting the detailed notes and information that can help a manager make intelligent decisions about what is going on in the field. Learn how to make it easy for your field personnel to send you detailed information and the best practices to implement to keep the information coming.

This class is repeated on Friday from 11:00 – 12:15.

Models of Motivation - Part I

Guest Instructor: Mike Murray

What gets people motivated? In the business world, we assume that money (salary, bonus, fringe benefits, etc.) is the primary motivator (in spite of all the talk about Maslow's Hierarchy). And no doubt money plays a significant role, but what does a manager or supervisor do if “money” doesn't seem to be working? Are there other elements that impact a person's motivation?

This workshop will explore nine other “models” of motivation. The purpose is to equip participants with a variety of options to use when they are not getting the level of commitment and effort from an employee who is needed to achieve success and accomplish the mission.

This class automatically enrolls you in Models of Motivation - Part II on Thursday from 3:30 – 4:45.

Session 3 — Friday 8:00 9:15
Key Performance Indicators, Scoreboards, and Forecasting - Part I

Guest Instructor: Brad Hams

Businesses typically “keep score” with financial statements. Of course these are critical to operating a business, but they are not enough for several reasons. First, they are historical documents and cause us to manage our businesses reactively vs. proactively. Second, they focus only on the score at the end of the game: financial, lagging indicators. They tell us nothing about what occurred during the game that got us there. If we are to drive financial performance, we must focus on the leading, operational measures that impact it. Finally and most importantly, financials do not drill accountability down to those people who influence them.

In this session, which has been tailored to the construction industry, you will learn how to identify your key operational and financial indicators, build scoreboards, and teach organization members to forecast results in an environment of high visibility and accountability.

This class automatically enrolls you in Key Performance Indicators, Scoreboards, and Forecasting - Part II on Friday from 9:30 – 10:45.

Leadership: Courage, Humility, and Trust - Part I

Guest Instructor: Mike Murray

This workshop, based on the book “Good to Great” by Jim Collins, will examine three qualities that many leaders have in common: courage, humility, and trust. Together, we will explore the following: What is courage? Where does it come from? How does one balance courage with humility? How does one prevent courage from becoming foolishness and humility from becoming false modesty?
This workshop isn't just for CEOs. If you have others looking to you for leadership or you want to enhance your effectiveness as a leader, this workshop is for you!

Learn the reasons why ROI is a key measure, along with profit percentage and backlog, in helping contractors manage their business better. We will share live examples and have Q & A to further clarify everyone's understanding.

Creating Incentive Plans...That Work! - Part I

Guest Instructor: Brad Hams

Most incentive plans don't work. In fact, many of them actually damage the organization rather than assist to drive financial performance. Why? Because they are overly complex. They are tied to financial performance, yet we don't teach participants about finance nor engage them in funding the plan. Consequently, there is no connection between activity and bonus, and the plan becomes nothing more than an entitlement.

This session has been tailored to the construction industry, and you will learn how to create a plan that accomplishes what an incentive plan should really do: Shape Employees' Behavior Toward Improving Financial Performance. Towards this end, you will learn how to create a plan that is self- funded and tied to the appropriate measures. Additionally, you will learn how to engage your employees in funding the plan.
