HeavyBid Joint Venture Discussion We'll discuss the Joint Venture subsystem in HeavyBid, including:
  • How joint venture partners can prepare estimates independently and bring them together to be compared/analyzed in HeavyBid.

  • Defining Joint Venture Setup information (partners, responsibility, cost groups, etc.)

  • Importing/entering “agreed upon” job items and partner estimate cost data for the job items and review.

  • Comparing and analyzing job and partner data.

Estimating Equipment Costs
Part I: Equipment Operating Cost Components
We will look at and discuss methods of determining your hourly equipment operating costs. Learn how to derive and utilize values for the various hourly operating cost components and consumption values of your equipment. This will facilitate your ability to estimate and easily make last minute adjustments to various operating costs within your estimates.
Quote System Part III: Self-Performed Work Learn how to set up self-performed work activities in the estimate so you can compare your costs to subcontract costs. This allows you to use the Quote System to choose between using your costs or subcontract costs for doing the work.
Setting Up HeavyBid for Electronic Bidding Interfaces This class will provide the steps necessary to tailor HeavyBid's powerful electronic bidding feature to your company's needs. Course material will cover creating a library estimate, building an activity codebook, populating the biditem codebook, and tying all of these elements together to bring speed and efficiency to your operation. Guided discussion will shed some light on overcoming speed bumps commonly encountered during setup. You should leave this class with information to make a good plan for streamlining your electronic bidding process.

Estimating Equipment Costs Part II: Advanced Equipment – Ownership/Rental Costs Building off of Part I, this class will cover such topics as Advanced Equipment Setup and Rent Time Adjustments. Topics will include using purchase and salvage (resale) values, as well as “rent vs. time” methods to more accurately estimate equipment ownership/rental costs in your bids.
HeavyBid Discussion Participate in an open discussion about HeavyBid and its features, development, and future direction.
Preparing Bid Forms Learn the different ways to prepare professional looking bid proposals. We'll also cover the use of subtotals, note and header lines, standard and customized bid proposals, as well as sending proposals to Microsoft® Excel.

Quote System Part IV: What-Ifs and DBEs Use the Quote System to manage and meet your minority goals. Analyze the current minority dollars and use What-If scenarios to see how selecting different vendors affects your estimate and minority dollars.
Understanding HeavyBid Reports Go beyond the everyday reports you are used to running in HeavyBid, and uncover information you may not even know exists. We will explain what each report does and its value to you. Learn to customize query reports for the bid review and see how reports can vary according to the estimate.

Activity Codebooks Part I: Activity, Material, and Biditem Codebook Variations Learn how to streamline your bidding process by using the activity and material codebooks. The activity codebooks contain a list of all the different types of work you might perform at your company and uses the pricing in the material codebook to easily work up biditems throughout any kind of estimate. The biditem codebook can be used to create a relationship between your library and common biditem codes used by your customers.

Cross Estimate Analysis This class will focus on HeavyBid's Estimate Management view, a helpful utility allowing you to track important stats on all your estimates. Estimate Management allows chief estimators to see how many estimates they've won in a year, how much asphalt is scheduled to come from their plants, and many other important indicators. We'll also cover how to use filters and key indicators to make the most of the Estimate Management utility.
Estimating Equipment Costs Part III: Equipment Biditems – Complex Ownership/Rental Costs Building on Part II, class attendees will learn how to use the more complex equipment biditems to determine equipment ownership/rental costs. Learn how equipment biditems can be used to estimate and time-span ownership/rental costs of major equipment pieces.
Handling Multi-Year Escalation This class will walk through and discuss the new multi-year escalation in HeavyBid. In the past, users had to either enter an average escalation for the estimate or make a detailed schedule to prorate escalation throughout the estimate. Now, with HeavyBid 2009, you will be able to set escalation by time frames, usually years, quickly and easily.

Activity Codebooks Part II: Using the Codebook Editor In this session, you'll get a basic understanding of the codebook editor. You'll learn how to easily reformat or renumber activity codes, add or replace data within the activity codes, and verify the integrity of the activity codebook layout. Other features discussed include making changes to the crew, crew production, and other resource changes.
Assemblies and Calculation Routines Learn how to set up calculations to be used to automatically calculate numeric values for an activity or resource, as well as set up components to add or update activities and resources in your estimates. Upon completion of the class, you'll have learned how to create assembly routines in Estimate Entry for updating or adding activities and resources in your estimates based on values you enter.
Comprehensive Labor Setup This course covers setting up complicated labor work rules, work times, taxes, and benefits as associated with various union agreements for markets such as New York City.
Current Trends in Estimating (Discussion) This is an opportunity to talk with other estimators and discuss topics outside the realm of HCSS products. This is a great opportunity to hear what estimators across the nation are working through.

Activity Codebooks Part III: Create Your Own Activity Codebook

You've learned the value behind setting up your activity codebook in parts I and II of this course. Now come and get started on setting up your own codebook. Work with your peers, learn their best practices, share yours, and automate your estimate generation process efficiently.

It is recommended that you have Microsoft® Excel for this class.

Understanding Bid Summary Spread Methods This class will cover how HeavyBid gets to a Balanced Price for each biditem after inputting basic costs, markup percentages, add-ons, bond, and any number of overrides. We will clarify what's happening behind the scenes.
