Custom Calculation Routines | Excel Spreadsheets

HeavyBid offers the use of embedded Microsoft Excel spreadsheets that set up data links between Excel spreadsheets and estimate activity and resource data. Excel links tie (or link) activity or resource values in the estimate to cells in an Excel spreadsheet. Changes made to linked cells in the spreadsheet are used to update the linked activity and resource fields in the estimate.

Excel links are created and managed in the Cost Estimate area of HeavyBid. Setting them up is simple. Merely:
  • Open your Excel Spreadsheet and HeavyBid.
  • Right click on your Cost Item and choose "Add Link".
  • Type in the cell you wish to link and click OK.

Excel links are 'active' when the 'linked' spreadsheet is open in the Spreadsheet Window. These 'active' links are color coordinated and easy to see in both the estimate and the spreadsheet. (Example of an active link - )

Excel links are 'inactive' when the spreadsheet used to create them is not open in the Spreadsheet Window. (Example of an inactive link - )
