HeavyBid makes bidding big jobs a breeze for Dunnet Bay Construction Co.

 

Since 2004, Dunnet Bay Construction Co., based in Glendale Heights, Ill., has relied on software to help gain an advantage in their competitive bidding process.

Clients like the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority and the city of Chicago award high-dollar jobs, and HeavyBid estimating software from HCSS makes bidding for those big jobs much easier.

HeavyBid allows multiple people to work on different aspects of the same estimate at the same time. This multiuser capability is a feature that Dunnet Bay used on the Rte. 41/Rte. 132 project they were awarded.

“We were able to combine the efforts of eight people to put together this $28.5 million project in two-and-a half weeks,” said John Grimm, senior estimator. The estimating software “allowed us to set up and get the data together quickly, as well as make changes easily up to the last minute and on the night of the bid.”

After a job is won, Dunnet Bay uses HeavyJob to track time and production quantities. Foremen and superintendents enter this information daily and compare actual quantities against the estimate.

“By tracking this information, we get accurate field costs and can transfer that information into our next bid quickly. Knowing our true costs has greatly increated our ability to bid more accurately.”
