In the ultra-competitive IDOT and Chicago markets, Cabo Construction uses HeavyBid to significantly increase their estimating without having to add additional man power.

“HeavyBid has helped us tremendously,” says estimator Mel Baron. “Building an estimate and pricing it out so much faster now. Where it used to take me days to build an estimate, it now takes me just hours.”

Building estimates faster has helped them double the number of jobs they bid. “Before HeavyBid, we would bid six to seven jobs a month,” says co-owner Robert Bohac. “Now with the same estimating staff, we can easily bid 12 to 15 jobs a month.” “One month, I even bid 30 jobs,” adds Baron.

They have also been able to get more employees involved in the estimating process. “HeavyBid is so easy, we can take employees who aren’t traditionally estimators and they can help Mel and I do things such as create new estimates, pull in DOT items, solicit subs, and enter quotes,” Bohac says.

HeavyBid has also helped the company make the step up from sub to general contractor. “We have always tried to bid work as a GC but did very little before HeavyBid,” admits Baron. “HeavyBid has helped us grow, and now we’re bidding much more work as a general [contractor] because it is much easier. The Quote system has helped us streamline the entire quote process from soliciting subs and suppliers to analyzing quotes to awarding work. HeavyBid helps us track and organize everything.”
