Pre-built Work Activities

One of the most powerful features of HeavyBid is the activity codebook. A codebook with standard codes is very useful for saving time and linking to job costing or cost history. Selecting activities in an estimate with an activity codebook not only saves time for data entry in your estimate, but will keep consistent production types, production rates, materials, crews, worker’s comp, and accounting codes.

The above is an example of an activity for 24” RCP in a database that promotes the use of consistent activity codes throughout all estimates. When adding an activity in an estimate from the activity codebook, HeavyBid will automatically pull in the data that has been set up in the codebook such as,in this case, the USC crew with a production rate of 45 units per hour, worker’s comp code 5507, and resource codes for both #57 stone and 24" RCP.

Adding Multiple Activities in an Estimate

It is very easy to add multiple activities to a biditem and this is a great way to use the pick list concept to make sure you did not leave something out. Select activities from your codebook and adjust the order as needed. In this example, Biditem 50 currently has zero cost and needs three work activities to rough grade the surface, build ditches and grade the site.

At the bottom of the entry screen click the add activities button to bring up the activity codebook where you can check off all the work that is required for this item, in this case the three activities checked on the left side. This copies them to the right side of the screen where you can add quantities and adjust the crews and production if necessary as well as change the order as necessary.

Estimate Entry with Activity Codebook

Once the activities are added, the items will displayed in the estimate as shown in the illustration below in the tree on the left side of the screen.

Search Estimate History

One of the advantages of using standard activity codes is that you can easily look at estimate history to find similar work to see average costs for that item. You can even filter down to similar work by size to get an even more accurate comparison. By looking at any number of estimates, you can take an average cost and compare to your current estimate and use the average costs.

In the example below activity code 412360 was on the estimate entry screen and pressing one button brings up the screen below which shows you the estimate history of that code.

With these easy to use tools, HeavyBid will help you become a faster estimator with more accessible information at your fingertips.
