Customizable Calculation RoutinesIf you have certain calculations that you always perform and would like to automate them, you can take advantage of HeavyBid’s built-in calculation routines or create your own. A great example of HeavyBid's built in calculation routines is the Cut and Fill with Bedding equation. This routine can be used to calculate and enter the resource quantity.
Notice that this is an easy to use routine; you can refer to the graphic on the left as you fill out the values on the right. HeavyBid then calculates and prints the result in Estimate Entry. In the example above, the result is “Bedding 1+2”; notice that you can select a different result from the bottom of the screen. You can also create your own calculation routines or use an existing one as a basis for a new one. The example below is what the formulas for a Paving calculation routine looks like. The I types are input values and the R types are intermediate calculations or final results. The great thing about these routines is that they are copied to the notes so that reports and on-screen displays show exactly where the numbers came from.
You could copy the above routine, and modify it to suit your needs. The best thing about these routines are that they are part of the estimate, and not seperate Excel spreadsheets and are very easy and fast to use while estimating. You can also create Assemblies, which are calculation routines on steriods. It allows you to set up pick-lists of multiple combinations where the end result could be many activities and materials in the estimate from one, straight-forward assembly. For example, a formwork assembly could have options for the type of concrete, the type of rebar, the spacing of rebar, the amount of forms and number of uses, as well as the dimensions and result in several activities for forming, placing, stripping with crews and productions, as well as the materials used. HeavyBid can also link to Microsoft Excel. If you have calculations already set up in Excel, simply link the Estimate Entry field to the Excel spreadsheet. Link activity or resource fields to a spreadsheet and if you modify the values in the spreadsheet, HeavyBid will automatically display the updated result. |
