"I've been using HeavyBid for ten years now, and I've found that the benefit of the system is how easy it is to use and the compatibility to
work with other programs for exporting and importing to spreadsheet, accounting, and scheduling programs," says Roy Huemer, Project Manager/Estimator for
Earle Asphalt Co."
Roy has gotten just as much satisfaction from
HeavyJob. "When you're running night
crews, it gets very hard between the project manager and the superintendent to communicate
because he's asleep while I'm awake and vice versa. When we started using
HeavyJob, it really
made a difference. Now, with
HeavyJob, I'm able to go down the daily logs, read the information,
and easily find out how the job is going. We've got the note indexes set up for any issues, print out
some nice reports, and get all the information.
HeavyJob really helps things get back into the
office in a clear, concise way that is usable project management information. And with the daily
production information, you know what's happening on the job, what you're expecting per
day, what productions you're hitting per day, you know if you have a problem, and you 're able to
deal with that as soon as possible".
Roy has seen his "ability to produce private
entity bids triple" with HCSS training. "On-site training paid for itself on the first day," says Roy.
"We needed help with translating our payroll information from
HeavyJob to our accounting
system, Cheetah. Within an hour, the trainer helped the person who was responsible for that,
taking her workload from a 90% manual entry, 10% automated and switched those percentages.
Now its 10% manual, 90% automated. He took a two day job for her and changed it to two hours!"
The Annual User's Group Meetings provide a way for Huemer to improve his skills with
HeavyBid
and
HeavyJob. "Every time I come to Houston, I learn something that will speed up my job, speed
up the other people that I work with, and eliminate duplication of effort. I sat down with one of the
programmers, Jim Spence, for two hours with a bunch of questions, walked through them with
him, and made sure that I was looking at things in the proper way. To get that kind of interaction
with the designer of the system and to have input on the program that you are using is invaluable. I
have said before, 'I understand you [HCSS] aren't in the business for writing programs for
Earle Asphalt, but it tends to end up that way.' I like the fact that every time I need help with
something, all I have to do is give you a call."
