Lines R. Taylor had a vision of quality when he started his company in 1932. Joined by his son-inlaw after World War II, the company grew based on that vision. Summers-Taylor, now led by third generation RT “Rab” Summers, is the largest heavy and highway construction contractor in northeast Tennessee, and HCSS is helping to continue that tradition.
“In a competitive market, it is a must to provide the most accurate estimate possible and relay that information to the field operations for their use, and conversely receive the actual cost information feedback to management and estimating,” said Danny Matthews, Vice President of Estimating. This all started for Summers-Taylor in April of 2006 when they began using HeavyBid. They wanted an estimating system with the capability to integrate job production quantities and costs. Four months later, they purchased HeavyJob and successfully integrated it with HeavyBid and their Hardhat accounting software. Previously, information was passed through four different people before it was finally filed by accounting. With the integration of HeavyBid and HeavyJob, everything is done electronically, and information flows smoothly.
“It has saved us time, thus creating overhead savings for us in future years,” said Matthews.
Summers-Taylor faced the challenge of learning both estimating and job-tracking software in the
same year. With the training and implementation services of HCSS, it was not a daunting task.
“Our conversion to HCSS would not have been easy without the implementation
and follow-up training we received,” said Matthews.
