Utility Services Estimator
Cianbro has an exciting career opportunity for a Utility Services Estimator for work in Pittsfield, Maine. The position requires
the preparation of contract proposal estimates for High Voltage Transmission and Distribution projects. The position will also involve
the review proposals, specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents to estimate materials specificity,
quantity, and cost. Determines the suitability of the project for Cianbro and the availability of resources to bid the project and
continually monitors the work through completion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary review of RFP's and help determine suitability of project to meet company goals, and assess how project

- Ensure that estimates address all potential safety risks and concerns.
- Develop innovative means and methods for completion of projects to increase our competitiveness and project margins.

- Assist in the preparation of proposals, and include information to document the basis of the proposal.
- Ensure that proposals meet company and regional financial goals, and that contractual requirements of the project
are acceptable.
- Maintain base bid documents and organize estimate information.
- Assist the project team by providing technical guidance on the project delivery in terms of means and methods for
successful bids, and continue this support for the duration of the project on smaller jobs.
- Coordinate with the production team on successful bids to provide a thorough transition to the project team.
- Support business development with technical information and client meetings as requested.
- Assist in development of project budgets and monitoring contract changes on successful proposals.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience in technical field and/or related experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of electrical system estimating.
- Requires strong computer skills, familiarity with scheduling and estimating software (HCSS) and MS Office.

The Position - Chief Estimator
Due to growth and expansion American Infrastructure-Virginia, a leading Mid-Atlantic heavy civil construction company, has an opportunity for an experienced Chief Estimator to join their winning team. Responsibilities include:
- Participates in sales meetings with Executive VP of Construction, VP/GM, Construction Manager and Business Development Manager to determine types of projects to bid and establish bidding strategies.
- Conducts estimating staff meetings to review upcoming bids and work schedule.
- Maintains budgeted backlog and continuity of work.
- Works with VP/GM, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents and Field Managers as well as any outside agencies necessary in the preparation of estimates.
- May compile owner/customer bid documents, i.e. bid bonds, insurances, signatures, etc.
- Plans, supervises and coordinates the solicitation and procurement of future work with the help of the estimating staff and senior management.
- Monitors status/work progress of estimate development prior to bid review.
- Conducts bid reviews.
- Reviews final estimate proposals and bid documents prior to submission to insure accuracy and completeness.
- Participates in presentations to corporate management and clients. May be responsible for closing sales.
- Oversees follow-up after submission of estimates to the clients either directly or through staff.
- Participates in negotiating final pricing, contracts, change orders, etc., as required.
- Attends pre-construction planning and post-construction analysis meetings with Lead Estimator.
- Reviews historical data from purchase orders, bid tabulations, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports and job costs systems. Develops unit cost, man-hour and crew production figures to be used for future bids.
- Incorporates the AI Safety Program and associated costs into estimates. Identifies high-risk activities and coordinates with Safety Department to determine if additional costs are required.

- Provides notification to business unit and AI advising project is certain to proceed to Trigger.
- Interacts with Purchasing and Project Teams in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Business or Construction Management preferred (continuing education in construction highly desirable)
- Experience with the Virginia Department of Transportation (V.D.O.T.) is highly preferred
- Minimum of 12 years of construction experience with at least 8 years in estimating required

CIVIL ESTIMATOR
JOB PURPOSE: The primary role of the Civil Estimator is to provide civil estimating services. Prepare bid packages for civil construction projects and assist civil operations and administration as needed during construction.

1) Pre-bid Process:
- Review bid documents and attend pre-bid meeting
- Investigate project site before bid to identify potential problems, access issues, haul routes, waste areas, borrow areas, staging areas, dump sites, etc.
- Determine project scope of work and scope of work to be self-performed and subcontracted
- Provide bid documents to potential subcontractors and suppliers via online plan rooms
- Issue Invitations to Bid to potential subcontractors and suppliers via online plan rooms
2) Bid Process:
- Serve as company liaison to subcontractors and vendors during the bidding process
- Perform complete and accurate quantity takeoffs for individual items of work
- Use civil takeoff software to perform quantity takeoffs
- Determine activity production rates based on scope of work, difficulty of work, historical production data, etc.
- Determine appropriate work crew for each work activity
- Utilize civil estimating software to prepare complete cost estimates
- Review scope, cost and terms of subcontractor and vendor quotes to select best value quotes
- Maintain an accurate estimate file including correspondence, takeoff, addenda, photos, quotations, estimating software output, and bid submittal documents
- Assure that risk has been considered within the bid
- Conduct and facilitate Final Estimate Review with Management
3) Bid Delivery:
- Develop Bid Delivery strategy
- Ensure bid submittal documents are completed fully and correctly

4) Post-Bid Process:
- Update and maintain the civil estimate log in Excel in a timely manner
- Assist in preparing the quarterly Civil Estimating Report to Management
- Complete estimate buyout, issue letters of intent and prepare the estimate information notebook

- Maintain and communicate company policies, procedures, and processes
- Evaluates and recommends new technology, techniques, and cost saving measures
- Ensure that the Civil Estimating Department operates in a professional manner and conveys a positive company image to clients, potential clients, subcontractors, suppliers, competitors and the public
- Ensure company assets are secure, and maintain a safe and respectful working environment at all times by implementing safety, EEO, risk management, training, and quality control programs

Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Degree in construction science or construction management is desired.
- Experience with computers, preferably with MS Office and MS Project. Experience with Construction Estimating and Job Tracking Software is a plus.
- 3 years demonstrated estimating experience in civil and heavy structural concrete construction. Wind Energy experience is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Highway/Earthwork/Utility Junior Estimator
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Qualifications / Requirements:
Seeking an individual with two to five years of experience in quantity take-offs for heavy highway, earthwork and utilities. The preferred candidate will have a four year Engineering or Construction Management degree or equivalent technical training or related experience. Experience in highway, earthwork, and utility work is required. Experience with computer and internet, Agtek and MS Office and Excel is required.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
Perform quantity take-offs, analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare quantity take-offs for projects. Position will include project site investigation, material and various other tasks such as plan copying, and compiling project data books.
Compensation:
Salary is negotiable depending on work experience. We offer medical and dental insurance, in addition to vacation, holiday pay, 401K plan as well as employee stock ownership plan.
